The Registrar of Companies (RoC) is an office under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) responsible for administering the Companies Act, 2013 and LLP Act, 2008. Each state or group of states has an RoC office.
Functions of RoC
- Registration: Incorporate companies and LLPs, issue Certificate of Incorporation
- Record Keeping: Maintain register of companies and their documents
- Compliance: Ensure companies comply with statutory requirements
- Filing: Accept and process various forms and documents
- Inspection: Allow public inspection of company documents
- Prosecution: Take action against non-compliant companies
- Strike Off: Remove defunct companies from register
