A Sultan Bazaar trader who already holds a GST number often assumes that covers the shop; it does not, since GST registration is a tax registration, not a premises approval. A Banjara Hills consulting firm makes a similar assumption about its company incorporation certificate, treating it as proof enough to trade from a rented office. Neither wins over a trade license, because only the trade license tells the correct Hyderabad corporation that a specific address is cleared for the specific business running out of it. LegalX India files this application for ₹799, typically in 15 to 20 days, for Hyderabad establishments in Sultan Bazaar, Banjara Hills and beyond.
Does Your Sultan Bazaar Shop or Banjara Hills Office Actually Need a Trade License?
Almost any Hyderabad business trading from a fixed premises needs a trade license, including retail shops, wholesale traders, professional offices, restaurants and manufacturing units. A Sultan Bazaar wholesale trader selling goods from a shop front needs one under Telangana's Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Act, 1955. A Banjara Hills firm offering CA, legal or consulting services from a leased office needs the same license, even though its work looks nothing like a shop's. The narrow exception is a business run entirely from a residence with no walk in clients, storage or signage, where the position depends on the corporation's own rules for that address. We confirm this before you file rather than assume either way. If your business has a shop front, a warehouse, a client facing office or any signage naming it, treat the trade license as compulsory, not optional.
What Documents Do You Need Ready Before You Apply?
Before we file anything, gather the following for your Hyderabad premises.
- Proof of address for the premises, such as a property tax receipt, sale deed or registered rental agreement
- A no objection certificate from the property owner if the premises is rented
- Identity and address proof of the owner or authorized signatory
- Your GST registration certificate or company incorporation certificate, if already issued
- Passport size photographs of the owner or signatory
- A site plan or layout sketch of the premises, for larger shops or offices
- Any category specific clearance your business needs, such as a food or fire clearance, where applicable
Missing even one of these commonly delays a Sultan Bazaar or Banjara Hills application by weeks, so we check the full list against your corporation's own requirements before submission.
How Does the Trade License Filing Actually Run in Hyderabad?
Once your documents are ready, the filing itself follows a fixed sequence.
- We confirm which corporation, GHMC, Cyberabad Municipal Corporation or Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation, actually covers your premises.
- We prepare your application and attach every supporting document in the format your corporation asks for.
- We submit the filing online and track its status until an officer picks it up.
- If the corporation raises a query or asks for an inspection, we respond and coordinate on your behalf.
- Once cleared, your trade license certificate issues under section 521 of the GHMC Act, 1955, or the equivalent provision your corporation applies.
Which Corporation Holds Your File, GHMC, Cyberabad or Malkajgiri?
On 11 February 2026, the Telangana government trifurcated the old GHMC into three separate corporations, and every Hyderabad trade license now depends on which one actually covers your premises. Sultan Bazaar and Banjara Hills both remain with GHMC, the corporation that retained its original name after the split. GHMC also keeps Begum Bazaar, Jubilee Hills and its own Secunderabad zone. HITEC City, Madhapur, Gachibowli, Kondapur and Balanagar sit outside GHMC altogether. Since the trifurcation they fall under the newly formed Cyberabad Municipal Corporation, a full civic body in its own right, not merely the name of the area's separate police commissionerate. Uppal also sits outside GHMC, falling instead under the third body, Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation, alongside Malkajgiri and LB Nagar. The table below sets out which corporation to expect for which part of the city.
| Corporation | Zones it covers | Localities in this guide |
|---|---|---|
| Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation | Shamshabad, Rajendranagar, Charminar, Golconda, Khairatabad, Secunderabad zone | Sultan Bazaar, Banjara Hills, Begum Bazaar, Jubilee Hills |
| Cyberabad Municipal Corporation | Serilingampally, Kukatpally, Qutbullapur | HITEC City, Madhapur, Gachibowli, Kondapur, Balanagar |
| Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation | Malkajgiri, Uppal, LB Nagar zones | Malkajgiri, Uppal, LB Nagar |
Once your corporation is confirmed, it can ask for a fresh inspection at renewal, a change in the premises layout, or updated ownership documents if the property changes hands. We track these requests so nothing surprises you later.
What Does a Hyderabad Trade License Cost, and When Do You Renew It?
Your corporation sets its own trade license fee, based on your business category and the size of your premises, and this is charged separately from LegalX India's own service fee. Our fee for handling a Hyderabad trade license application is ₹799, covering document review, filing and follow up until the certificate issues. The corporation's municipal fee itself is billed directly by the corporation and is not included in our ₹799. Most Hyderabad trade licenses are renewed every year, and the renewal application is generally due about 30 days before expiry. A Sultan Bazaar shop or a Banjara Hills office should start the renewal well before the certificate lapses. We track your renewal date and file the paperwork early, so you are never caught operating on an expired license.
Who in Hyderabad Is Applying for a Trade License Right Now?
Two kinds of Hyderabad businesses come to us for this filing most often.
- A Sultan Bazaar wholesale trader running a shop front in the Old City. This trader needs the license before a bank or a supplier will treat the business as fully compliant, and falls under GHMC for filing and renewal.
- A Banjara Hills professional services firm, whether a CA practice, a law office or a consulting outfit. This firm assumed its GST number and company registration were enough, and now needs the premises itself cleared by GHMC before a client audit or a bank asks for it.
Both fall within GHMC's own retained territory after the trifurcation, so their filing goes to the same corporation. A Cyberabad Municipal Corporation or Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation address elsewhere would follow the same process, only with a different corporation.
